Basileus Emeritus



Bro. Dr. Edmund W. Gordon has been cited by The New York Times as, “Perhaps, the most distinguished African-American psychologist of his generation.” Some have challenged this ethnic limitation and place him among the most distinguished behavioral and pedagogical scientists in our nation. He is certainly one of the most unique. Bro. Gordon is one of the very few people in the world to hold two endowed Ivy League University professorships. Dr. Gordon is the Richard March Hoe Professor of Psychology and Education emeritus and Director of the Institute of Urban and Minority Education, (IUME), at Teachers College, Columbia University where, he also served as Vice President of Academic Affairs and Interim Dean from July 2000 until August 2001. Professor Gordon is also the John M. Musser Professor of Psychology, Emeritus at Yale University . He is the Senior Scholar in Residence at the College Board and Scholar in Residence at SUNY Rockland Community College . In 2004, The Educational Testing Service created the Edmund W. Gordon Chair in Evaluation, Research and Policy in his honor. In 2005, Columbia University named its facility in Harlem , the Edmund W. Gordon Campus of Teachers College. Without question, he is one of our nation's most distinguished scholars.

Brother Gordon's distinguished career spans professional practice and scholarly life as a minister, clinical and counseling psychologist, research scientist, author, editor and professor. He has held appointments at several of the nations leading universities including Howard, Yeshiva, Harvard, Columbia, Yale, The Educational Testing Service and the City University of New York.

Dr. Gordon's scholarship is document in his authorship of more than 200 articles in scholarly journals, 50 book chapters and in more than 18 books and monographs authored or edited by him. He served for five years as Editor of the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry and for three years as Editor of the annual Review of Research in Education. Professor Gordon is best known for his research on diverse human characteristics and pedagogy, and the education of the low status populations. His book, Compensatory Education: Preschool through College , continues to be regarded as the classic work in its field. His recent book, Education and Social Justice: a View from the Back of the Bus, was published by Teachers College Press in 1999. His text, Supplementary Education: the Hidden Curriculum of High Academic Ability , was published in 2005. His most recent book, The Affirmative Development of Academic Ability was published in 2006. Even though Gordon is in his ninth decade, he has recently completed his book titled Defiance: Achievement in Black Men, and is now writing his conceptual memoir, Pedagogical Imagination.

Brother Gordon was initiated into Omega Psi Phi Fraternity through Alpha chapter at Howard University in 1940. In 1941 Bro. Gordon became Basileus of Alpha chapter. He is a Life Member and a charter member of Xi Lambda Lambda chapter (Rockland Ques) in Rockland County , NY. He and his wife, Dr. Susan G. Gordon, have been residents of Rockland County since 1954. They are the proud parents of four children, grandparents of nine children and one great grandchild. Although both the Doctors Gordon are highly accomplished they consider the humanity of their four accomplished children to be their greatest achievement. Together with their four children the Gordons are the founders of the CEJJES Institute and Conference Center in Pomona NY. The Institute is their children's memorial to their parents work while still alive.

1st Basileus - 2003 to 2005


Christian G. Sampson is Town Clerk and Registrar of Vital Statistics for the Town of Ramapo which, with more than one hundred and twelve thousand residents, is the largest of the five towns in Rockland County . He is the 2 nd Vice President of the New York State Town Clerks Association and is Vice Chairman of the Local Government Records Advisory Council an advisory group to the New York State Commissioner of Education.

Bro. Sampson, a retired telecommunications industry executive, is dedicated to a second career in public, civic and community service. Chris serves as a board member the Rockland County YMCA, the largest provider of child day-care and after school programs for children in Rockland . He has served as president of that board for five years. He is a Past President of the East Ramapo Central School District Board of Education where he has served for nine years. He is an active member and Past Basileus of XLL Chapter and currently serves as Secretary of the Chapter's not-for-profit Rockland Omega Community Development Foundation (ROCDEF). Chris has served on other local community service agencies including Leadership Rockland, a leader development education program and Catholic Community Services, a ministry to the hungry and homeless. Chris has also served as a Director and Treasurer of the Martin Luther King Multi Purpose Center in Spring Valley . He is past Chairman of the Town of Ramapo Democratic Committee and is currently the Vice Chairman of the Rockland County Democratic Committee.

Prior to his public sector career, Bro. Sampson was an executive with the regional “Baby Bell ” telephone company that operated in the New York and New England areas where he served for thirty years. His responsibilities ranged from large mainframe based computer application development to market planning and life cycle product management for a thirty million dollar information technology product line. He “retired” in 1996.

Bro. Sampson did his undergraduate work at City College and holds an MBA from Pace University . He and his wife Genevieve live in Chestnut Ridge , NY . They have been married for forty-three years and have five children and fourteen grandchildren. Genevieve is a retired Occupational Therapist who specialized in pediatrics with a focus on early intervention and sensory integration.



 
 

2nd Basileus - 2005 to 2009

 

Dennis is a graduate from Northeastern University with a BS degree in Business Administration and a major in accounting. Brother McGloster worked as an auditor for the first four years of his career traveling around the United States doing internal audits for the U.S. Department of Defense. He has spent the past 20 years working as a corporate tax accountant for such companies as the Hearst Corporation, Pepsi Bottling Group and the Bank of America. Presently, he is an insurance representative and financial advisor.

Brother McGloster came into the Fraternity on January 27, 2001 where he crossed the burning sands of Omega through Beta Alpha Alpha Chapter. He has been actively involved with the Investment Committee/BAA Foundation, Scholarship Committee, Westchester-Rockland Pan Hellenic Committee and the Social Action Committee. Dennis went on to serve Beta Alpha Alpha as Keeper of Records and Seal. He was awarded the Basileus Service Award.

In 2003, Bro. McGloster along with 12 other Omega men went on to form Rockland County first chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. helping to continue the spirit of the western expansion by spreading the ideals of Omega. His role in the new chapter, Xi Lambda Lambda, is that of Keeper of Records and Seal. Dennis is the juice behind the forming of The Rockland Omega Community Development Foundation, a 501c3 organization that was set up for the chapter. In addition to just about everything that goes on in Xi Lambda Lambda, Bro. McGloster was also instrumental in organizing the Gifted Student Seminar in Rockland County.

On the Corridor level under Corridor Rep Bro. Thomas Wallace, Brother McGloster is Financial Record Keeper and a member of the Corridor Intake Committee.

Brother McGloster was nicknamed “Pit Bull” by the 2nd District Representative, Ben Jeffers, during a Xi Lambda Lambda chapter meeting because of his tenacity to get things done. Although Dennis keeps a heavy schedule he still maintains a family life with his wife Sandy and his daughter.


 
 

3rd Basileus - 2009 to 2013

 

Brother T. Edward McBride, Jr. was initiated into the fraternity on April 11, 1992 through Xi Phi Chapter. In 1998 he became Life Member #3981 of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. While in Xi Phi he served as Editor of the Chapter Newsletter, The Omega Express, that later earned him the title of Editor Emeritus of Xi Phi chapter. He also served as Reclamation and Retention Chairman and Achievement week Chairman.

In 2003 Brother McBride became a Charter Member of the newly formed Xi Lambda Lambda Chapter in Rockland County, New York where he got involved in the areas that he was most familiar with Chapter Editor, Retention and Reclamation Chairman, and Jazz Brunch Chairman. He wrote the proposal that led to the establishment of the Rockland Omega Academy (ROAD) mentoring program. Brother McBride served as Keeper of Records and Seal and in 2009 he became the Third Basileus of Xi Lambda Lambda chapter.

During his time in office Brother McBride has successfully brought the brothers of the chapter together as a working unit, thereby establishing responsibility and accountability within the membership. Having a team spirit made it possible for every event that the chapter is involved in to be a success "Excellence without Excuses." In addition, Brother McBride established that the first week in January be the chapter's retreat where the entire chapter comes together to plan the budget and calendar of events for the upcoming year.

Brother McBride has received numerous honors during his time in Omega. Among them he is the 2013 Second District Founders Stand In for Bishop Edgar A. Love, a recipient of the 2011 Corridor 5 Basileus of the Year Award, the 2000 and 2010 Omega Man of the Year for Xi Phi Chapter, and the 2006 Omega Man of the Year for Xi Lambda Lambda Chapter. He has received the Basileus Appreciation Award and numerous Special Service Awards as well as the 50 th Second District Conference Appreciation Award, the Corridor 5 Appreciation Award in 2007 and the Corridor 5 Metro Chapter Founders Day Appreciation Award. Bro. T. Ed has represented his chapter at twelve District Meetings and at the 2010 Grand Conclave in Raleigh, North Carolina that helped elect Bro. Andrew Ray as Grand Basileus.

Under Bro. McBride's watch, Xi Lambda Lambda received the 2013 Martin Luther King Multi-Cultural Center Award, the 2012 Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Award, the 2012 NAACP Award, the 2012 Second District Small Chapter of the Year Award (2nd Place), the 2012 Second District Social Action Award (2nd Place), and the 2011 Second District Rudolph W. Powell Award

In 2006 Brother McBride became Webmaster for Corridor 5 of the Second District. A position he has held to the present. In 2011 Brother McBride was made Deputy Corridor Representative for the Northern Sector of Corridor 5 and is responsible for overseeing the activities of 6 chapters. This being done while holding the position of Basileus for his chapter Xi Lambda Lambda.

Brother McBride is a graduate of Baruch College with a BBA in Statistics and Computers. He also holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Adelphi University where he was also inducted into Delta Mu Delta Honor Society in Business.

Bro. McBride served in the U.S. Air Force during Viet Nam, and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He is the CEO of TEAM Systems Associates, LLC, an IT development and marketing company. His wife Annette is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. They have two daughters, two grandchildren and a great grandson. He and his family are members of Pilgrim Baptist Church in Nyack, NY.


 
 

4th Basileus - 2013 to 2015

 

Brother Dinkins is President/CEO of Unlimited Events & Marketing, Inc., a full service (unbundled) promotional and event marketing agency dedicated to providing professional turnkey solutions that are second to none.

Prior to starting the company Tony sold advertising space in General Market ( New York Daily News) and Ethnic Publications (Jet Magazine, Mentor Magazine), as well as Outdoor Billboard Advertising (Suburban Outdoor Advertising). Currently Unlimited Events & Marketing Inc. focuses on Special Event Management and Marketing. Tony has developed unlimited resources resources and as a result he has earned the reputation for getting the job done.

Brother Dinkins was initiated on December 2, 1983 through the Delta Mu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He was reclaimed into the XLL chapter by Brother Byron Hurlock in 2005 and has served as the chairman for the Talent Hunt; Achievement Week and two terms as the Vice Basileus along with serving as the President of the Rockland Omega Community Development Foundation the not for profit arm of the XI Lambda Lambda Chapter. He has assisted with almost all of the activities of the chapter and has attempted to guide the young brothers to practice the founder's intent of Friendship first.

Tony has a BS in business and MS in Organizational Leadership from Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, NY. He is a member of IEG, a contributor to the Event Marketer Magazine. He is a member of the Delta Sigma PI Business Fraternity and an Advisory Board Member of the Business School of Mercy College. Tony's work in the community included coaching youth basketball and supporting the young men in his community by mentoring and offering encouragement. Tony is active with Lacrosse Parents Club at Clarkstown North High School as the President of the Crease Club.


 
 

5th Basileus - 2015 to 2017

 

Bro. Long is the CEO of NYC Health and Hospitals / Carter, a 164-bed Skilled Nursing Facility and 201 Bed Long Term Care Hospital (LTACH), located in the Harlem Community.  He has been employed by NYC Health and Hospitals for over 24 years and most recently, served as Interim CEO and Chief Operating Officer for NYC Health and Hospitals Coler / Carter. 

Bro. Floyd Long became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. through the Xi Lambda Lambda Chapter (Rockland Ques).  Since becoming an Omega Man, he has continuously upheld the Fraternity’s Cardinal Principles with enthusiasm. Bro. Long has held several XLL Chapter Executive Council positions including Vice Basileus and Keeper of Records and Seal.  He has served as Chairman of the XLL Scholarship Committee and Achievement Week.  He has co-chaired the Annual XLL High School Football Combine

Bro. Long has a stellar record within the healthcare industry.  Most notably, he was recognized on two occasions for his role as Incident Commander during the 2012 Superstorm Sandy and in November 2013 for the safe relocation of over 200 sub-acute patients to the newly constructed Carter Specialty Hospital and Nursing Facility.  By implementing an interdisciplinary patient centered approach throughout his career, Bro. Long has focused on achieving a positive patient experience that exceeds expectations.

In addition to Bro. Long’s role within Health and Hospitals, he also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Health Administration Program of the New York University (NYU) School of Professional Studies.   Bro. Long is committed to the profession of Nursing Home Administration.  In 2008, he was appointed by the NYS Governor to the NYS Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators (BENHA) where he is the current elected BENHA Chairperson. 

Bro. Long earned both his Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration Degrees from Howard University, Washington, DC.  He was sponsored by NYC Health and Hospitals as an America’s Essential Hospitals Fellow (formerly National Association of Public Hospitals).

Floyd met Glenda, his lovely wife of 26 years, as undergraduates at Howard University. Professionally she is a Family Nurse Practitioner at a leading NY Metro health system. Glenda is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a U. S. Army Veteran, serving during Desert Storm.  They have two children, Floyd, III, also a graduate of Howard and Felicia Renee, currently a Howard Junior, majoring in Electrical Engineering.  As a family, they are Christians, actively practicing their faith through several ministries locally and abroad. 


 
 

6th Basileus - 2017 to 2021

 

Bro. Desamours is currently employed as an Investment Advisor with Merrill Lynch with 17 years investment and banking experience. He holds Series 6, 7, 66, life and health insurance and annuity licenses to do business in six states.

Bro. Desamours was born in Haiti and is a graduate of Hofstra University. There he was a scholastic athlete playing football.

Bro. Desamours moved back to New York after 15 years of living in Georgia where he was an active member of Cascade United Methodist Church. He served on the steering committee for the United Methodist Men. He also chaired the church golf tournament for two years to raise scholarship money for college bound seniors.

He was a member of the South Cobb Rotary Club and Vice President of the Project One Golf Academy. He served 2 terms as the President of the Powder Springs Business Association.

Bro. Desamours has continued his service to the community by attending meetings with the CEJJES Institute book club and Rockland Omega AcaDemy (ROAD) mentoring program.


 
  7th Basileus - 2021 to Present

Bro. Peterson has been a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. for 32 years.  Bro. Peterson was initiated on March 26, 1989 through the Beta Delta Delta Chapter at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Bro. Peterson is also a Life Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.  

In 2003, Bro. Peterson became a Charter Member of the newly formed Xi Lambda Lambda Chapter in Rockland County, New York and served as the Chapter’s first Keeper of Finance.  In 2017, he received the Omega Man of the Year (Xi Lambda Lambda).   On April 18, 2015, Bro. Peterson led the initiative to unveil a historical marker for our Founder, Bishop Edgar Amos Love in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on the 30th anniversary of the Beta Delta Delta Chapter – confirming the birthplace and birthdate of Bro. Love.

Bro. Peterson is a Vice President at Barclays (Chief Security Office) and Principal at Proactive Softworks, LLC in New York, NY.  He is a graduate of James Madison University with a BBA in Computer Information Systems.  He also holds a Masters of Business Administration from Averett College.

Bro. Peterson currently serves on the following boards – Greater Hudson Valley Council, Vice-Chair of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (Boy Scouts of America), Love BDD Foundation, Inc. and the I Believe I Achieve Charter School.   He has served as a Director for the Martin Luther King Multi-Purpose Center and the Harlem Little League Baseball.   He has also served on the Kennedy Center Board of Advisors on Technology (Washington, DC).

Bro. Peterson and his wife live in New City, NY.  They have three sons and one daughter.
